The Absentee Shawnee Tribe has long used iconography to represent the land, water, and sky. The building concept takes cues from the symbolic connection to nature and assembles them into an iconic structure – one that emerges from the rusty red soil as an outcropping and folds itself toward the sky. Sharp, protective canopy undulations mimic textile patterns creating a main entry that is at once shaded and open to natural light and views. This is a modern structure, deeply rooted in history and exemplifying the future.
